welcome to the Jewish Community in Prague. Since we have left Prague, and we are back in Israel, we are not sure the information is updated. Please check the information in one of the links from our site. We recommend to contact Rabbi Menachem Kalchheim, which is the assistant chief Rabbi of the Czech Republic. Rabbi Kalchheim is a Shaliach from Israel, who is appointed as a Rabbi by the chief Rabbinate of Israel, and participated a program of the Rothchild foundation, as preperation for his work in Prague.

accommodation in Prague

The Hotels in the center of Prague are quite expensive. But sometimes you can get a good bargain through a travel agent (especially in the winter). There is one Kosher hotel in Prague, the Dinnitz hotel, and it is on a level of Mehadrin also according the Israeli standarts. For Travel agencies you can try this site or this site or this site or this site or this site too. some close hotels are:

Dinitz – **** It is a nice hotel, very close to the Jewish quarter, which is the only kosher hotel. They also have a dairy restaurant.

InterContinental ***** (has magnetic cards for the doors instead of keys, and an electronic door at the main entrance that opens when you come near it, which is a Problem for Shabbat, but they are aware of that problem, and someone is standing next to the door during Shabbat and accompanies Jewish people to their room)

Salvator ***

except hotels, it is very recommended to rent an apartment in the Jewish quarter. It is much cheaper, and very convenient.

Kosher restaurants in Prague

The Kashrut topic in Prague (like in any other place) is a delicate topic. There is only one Rabbi in Prague who is authorized to give Kashrut certificate, and that is the chief Rabbi of Prague, Rabbi Efraim Sidon. His Kashrut level is, according to what I believe, similar to regular Rabbinate Kashrut in Israel

·        Dinitz meat restaurant - Oriental-style Israeli restaurant. (Constant hashgochah, Glatt meat, Pat Israel, all the prudocts are mehadrin also according to Israeli standarts). Bilková Street 12 [200 meters from the Old-New Synagogue] you can also order there bread that is pat Yisroel, and other prudocts imported from Israel. The restaurant is open daily between 11:30 to 22:30 you can order deliveries throughout the city, you can pay in shekels, U.S. dollars, or Euro. This restaurant also offers meals for Shabbat. phone: 222,313,308. Response in Hebrew, English, French, Czech and Russian.
Special service allows hiring electric stove, and heating plates for Shabbat.

·        Dinitz dairy restaurant in the hotel - Israeli dairy restaurant (constant Hashgochah, Colov Yisroel, Pat Israel, all prudocts are kosher lamehadrin ). DUŠNÍ Street 24.  you can pay in shekels, U.S. dollars, Euro.
There is also a possibility for people that are not guests of Dinitz hotel to eat breakfast, but you have to order in advance.  phone: 221,778,111 (420 +) or from Israel 03-7226220 - answer in Hebrew, English, French, Russian, and Czech.

·        Shelanu - established by the Chabad Shaliach Rabbi Manis Barasch. Rabbi Barasch can be trusted on any subject according to my opinion. This restaurant offers soups, meats, sandwiches, salads, light dishes and soft drinks. There is also a possibility for Shabbat meals (ordered in advance). The restaurant is open every weekday between the 9:00-22:00, Friday between 9:00-15:00. Address: Břehova 8, very close to the Old New Synagogue.

Shalom restaurant - in the Community building - on Maiselova St. 18. This is mainly a dining room for members of the Community, that get subsidized lunch, and therefore the food is not high class. In the past, tourists could have ordered lunch in this restaurant, but lately it is not done privately. However it is possible to organize a group to eat there lunch or supper. For details, contact Ariel, which is listed below, among other tourist guides. The menu in Shalom restaurant is a fixed menu, which sometimes is good, and sometimes not so much... However, on Shabbat, it is possible to order meals in advance, and the food is OK . Tickets to eat in this restaurant can be purchased in the community, or by telephone: +420-224810929.

·        Another restaurant in Prague is the King Solomon. It is very close to the Jewish community. The restaurant is expensive and exclusive. They claim that the meat is Glatt, but other products are in regular Kashrut, and they are surely not kosher lamehadrin at the level expected in Israel. They don't have a Hecsher from the Chief Rabbinat of Prague, but of a private organization that they founded.
